A three-day model train show headlines this week of activities, followed closely by Brazilian, Irish, and Japanese cinema, plus a documentary on the New York State Pavilion. There’s also a “color run” and Greek, Mexican, classical, and doo-wop concerts. Here’s the rundown. May 20, North Beach, 7 pm. The Greater Astoria Historical Society hosts a lecture/slide presentation on North Beach, a summer resort where LaGuardia Airport is now. $10. QED Astoria, 27-16 23rd Ave., Astoria. May 20-23, Rebecca Patek, 8 pm. This NYC-based choreographer and performance artist synthesizes dance, theater, and comedy. The Who will rock to town as a highlight of an incredibly musical week that includes a symphony, an international event, Ed Sheeran, jazz, and even a festival for people who play the saw. There are also opportunities to enjoy Latin dance, European films, walking tours, and fly fishing. Here’s the rundown. May 28 and 29, Ed Sheeran, 7 pm. Blending soulful vocals with organic folk introspection and hip-hop hooks, Sheeran is a global phenomenon. Jeanine Durning Sweetens The Chocolate Factory All Month

Basically, she’s moving and taking over. Jeanine Durning will do a new piece, To Being (September 9-12 and 16-19), and then remount an older but related piece, inging (September 23-26), at The Chocolate Theatre in Long Island City this month. However, this is interpretive dance, and it’s a bit complicated. Durning is known for “nonstopping,” which involves unscripted nonstop “languaging” as performance. The speaker (dancer) works in direct relation with the listener (audience) at the moment of articulation. To Being is a choreography of persistence: the body continues in ongoing change, relations transform, meanings proliferate and fade. A companion work to inging, the performance is an unending search for an imperative relationship to movement in which dichotomies between self and other, material and immaterial, thought and action, incessantly dissolve.
